Guernsey Authorities Issue Update On Government Business Plan

by Philip Morton, Investors Offshore.com

27 August 2008

It was announced this week in an update on the Government Business Plan that during the July 2008 States meeting in Guernsey, Members unanimously agreed to hold the next GBP States debate in February 2009.

Although the States Report referred to having an October 2008 debate, the new GBP team led by the Chief Minister considered that, on reflection, more time was needed to build commitment to the GBP in the new States assembly, by holding three informal and interactive meetings with all States Members during the autumn.

According to a government statement, the GBP Team wants this consultation process to enable:

  • A ‘Slimming down’ of the current Priority Action Plans into specific objectives for the period 2012/13;
  • Agreement of a framework to produce concise and straightforward strategic plans to take on board these objectives; and
  • Engagement of all States Members in “big picture” policy making.

The States authorities announced in conclusion that:

"The February States Report will provide a formal progress report on the outcome of the autumn meetings and the debate will confirm that there is support for bringing a full GBP report to the States in July 2009."

"It will also provide the States and wider public with an update on the Priority Action Plans in their present form."
