It emerged this week that internet portal, Google, has been unsuccessful in its appeal against a French trademark infringement ruling delivered in October 2003.
French travel firms, Luteciel and Viaticum filed the lawsuit against Google when it emerged that internet users searching for their products and services were finding themselves directed to rival firms via Google's keyword advertising system.
The French court reportedly found Google guilty of "trademark counterfeiting", and ordered it to stop displaying the disputed links.
Following the failure of its appeal, Google will now be obliged to pay EUR75,000 in damages and costs to the two French travel firms.
