Online search portal, Google is being sued by Silicon Valley firm, Affinity Engines over Google's Orkut.com social networking service, which was launched in January as an invitation-only alternative to services such as Friendster.
In its lawsuit, Affinity alleges that Google engineer, Orkut Buyukkokten stole code from his former employer to establish the service, despite have pledged that he would not develop a competing networking service when he left the smaller firm to join Google.
Responding to the suit, which was filed in late May in the Superior Court of California, and seeks unspecified damages and royalties, Google spokesman David Krane announced that:
"We have repeatedly offered to allow a neutral expert to compare the code in the two programs and evaluate Affininty's claims, but Affinity has rejected that offer. We have investigated the claims made by Affinity Engines thoroughly and concluded the allegations are without merit."
