Goodbody Stockbrokers Bring Financial Information, Share Prices To Mobile Phones

Robert Lee, Tax-news.com, London

22 January 2001

Ireland's Goodbody Stockbrokers has launched Goodbody Mobile Markets, a new service which enables the individual to retrieve and access latest share prices, foreign exchange rates, or index performances, via SMS text messaging on mobile phone, or by e-mail.

According to Goodbody, over 600 clients have registered to sign up for the service in the last few days alone. The service uses text messaging and customers can be connected to Goodbody Mobile Markets at any time of the day, from anywhere in the world. The service allows customers to personalise their own channel of information and receive up to thirty pieces of market information.

It may be that share prices displayed via Goodbody Mobile Markets differ from the prices quoted on the Internet or by brokers. This is because the prices are approximately 20 minutes delayed. The financial information is provided by Reuters and the share prices are the last dealt prices.

Other than the call rates set by the mobile phone company, there is no additional fee for using Goodbody Mobile Markets, although potential investors should be aware that whilst the service can be used outside Ireland if the roaming function is set on the phone, roaming call rates from abroad can be exorbitant.
