Gibraltar must be included in Anglo-Spanish discussions concerning the future status of the Rock for there to be a satisfactory outcome to such negotiations, the Governor of the British dependent territory, Sir Francis Richard, commented in his Christmas address last week.
In his speech, Sir Francis forecast “plenty of difficult issues ahead” for Gibraltar in the coming years, although he expressed optimism at the approach of the tercentenary celebrations, and the pending visit by Princess Anne.
However, the Governor acknowledged that confidence in the territory had taken a knock after the UK’s handling of the joint sovereignty issue.
