Gibraltar FSC Appoints New Head Of Insurance

The Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (FSC) on Thursday announced the appointment of Michael Oliver as the Commission’s new Head of Insurance.

According to the FSC, Mr Oliver brings to the Commission over thirty years of international experience in the insurance industry.

The new Head of Insurance replaces Chris Collins, who will retire at the end of October.

Mr Oliver is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII). He is currently Head of Insurance at the BVI Financial Services Commission.

He is actively involved in international regulatory bodies, and is a member of two sub-committees of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).

Mr Oliver is also currently a member of the drafting group for an IAIS Guidance Paper on the Regulation and Supervision of Captive Insurers, and additionally sits on the Executive Committee of the Offshore Group of Insurance Supervisors (OGIS), chairing its Education Committee and its Evaluation Committee.

Speaking with regard to his appointment, Mr Oliver commented that:
