Following in the footsteps of Bermuda and just one or two other offshore jurisdictions, Gibraltar has appointed a full-time E-Commerce official.
Darion Figueredo has been appointed E-business Development Officer at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Telecommunications in Gibraltar.
Darion graduated with a first-class honours degree in Information Design in 1995 from the University of Westminster (BA Hons, E-commerce Concepts Analyst). He is a member of the Chartered Society of Designers and Institute of Management and has been involved with internet, multi-media, information architecture and interactive design and development since 1991.
Darion
is a member of the Gibraltar's E-commerce Think Tank
and presented Government with a report on 'e-Gibraltar
- foundations for an e-commerce future' in January
2000. He has also contributed articles on
e-business to various publications and brings a wealth
of experience in international marketing and promotion.
"I
am excited about the potential and possibilites that
lie ahead," said Darion. "I am convinced
that Gibraltar can prosper from e-business generally.
We know that this will not happen overnight and we
are preparing strategies to develop Gibraltar into
an international e-business centre. The recent liberalisation
of telecommunications, and
the imminent introduction of an Electronic Commerce
Ordinance, which incorporates the Electronic Signatures
and other EU Directives, can only be seen as moves
in the right direction."
