The German Ministry of Finance has announced the signing of a tax information exchange agreement with the Caribbean territory of Anguilla.
The agreement was signed in London on March 19, by the German ambassador to the UK, Georg Boomgaarden, and the Chief Minister of the British overseas territory of Anguilla, Hubert Hughes.
The agreement is based on the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) standard on transparency and tax information exchange, and will allow German tax authorities to obtain fiscal information from the Anguillan authorities in civil and criminal tax matters, and vice versa.
Welcoming the signing of the agreement, the German Ministry of Finance, stated:
"We welcome Anguilla's willingness to cooperate with us towards the adoption of the standards of the OECD, to help reduce tax evasion. The agreement is as a result of the efforts of the federal government to expand its network of bilateral agreements for the exchange of tax information, particularly with offshore financial centres."
