Speaking on Wednesday, Christine Scheel, head of the German parliament's finance committee revealed that the government may amend a package of draft tax legislation designed to reduce the budget deficit, given the negative reception that many of the proposals have received.
In a statement released as the one-day parliamentary hearing at which Ms Scheel was speaking got underway, the government confirmed that it is open to suggestions, announcing that:
'The federal government will not close itself off to constructive proposals for changes. However, given the budgetary situation...anyone seeking to remove parts of the package must say how the financial holes should be filled.'
