Following Saudi Arabia's decision to remove double pricing on gas, the signing of a free trade agreement between the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union is expected to take place within the next few months, according to reports.
Speaking to Gulf News, an unnamed Council source explained that:
"We expect that the EU will react favourably to the Saudi decision once this is done. The free trade pact might be signed in the coming few months."
The source added:
"The two parties are accelerating their efforts to conclude negotiations as soon as possible. If things go as planned, signing the agreement is expected to be done this year."
