Panama and the United States have reportedly made progress in their fifth round of free trade talks, which ended on Friday.
Speaking to the Associated Press with regard to the meeting, at which the issues of intellectual property, rules of origin and sanitary standards were discussed, Panamanian negotiator Estif Aparicio revealed that the two parties "came closer in their proposals".
He went on to add that:
"There has been significant progress and (some chapters) are virtually wrapped up."
The United States is Panama's principal trading partner, and according to the AP, is the destination for half of the latter's $800 million in exports.
