Despite suggestions that Lottery funding could be used to restore the monuments, it's looking increasingly likely that Albanel will opt to introduce the proposed levy, which would see guests frequenting 4 and 5 star hotels charged around 2/3 Euros.
Defending her decision, Ms Albanel reportedly stated that the tax would cost guests staying in such hotels "half the price of a soda from the minibar".
Albanel continued to defend the planned charge, hinting that much of the wear and tear on the monuments in question came from the tourists who were holidaying in the country to view them.
However, the decision has - unsurprisingly - been met with criticism from the hospitality industry.
According to a BBC report, it is estimated that the restoration of the country's historic monuments is costing the government around EUR400 million each year.
