Even Pets In Romania Will Be Taxed!

by Amanda Banks, Tax-News.com, London

19 November 2001

According to a report from Ananova, residents of Romanian city, Petrosani, who own any type of pet will be forced to pay a pet tax.

Apparently the tax, which is about £11 per pet, applied only to dogs but it has now been extended to all pets, even fish which means that an aquarium with 20 fish would cost the owner £231. The move has been condemned as 'absurd' by citizens' rights watchdog, People's Lawyer. It certainly could be viewed as a foul move, (or should that be fowl?!)
