Despite the recent unpredictability of the markets, and the ensuing exodus from pure online financial services, internet research firm, Jupiter MMXI recently reported that technologically savvy European investors are among the happiest in the world to manage their finances online.
The survey, conducted between May 2000 and May 2001, showed that German investors are leading their European counterparts in the amount of time spent visiting business and finance sites with the Spanish and Italians following clsely behind. During the period in question, the study showed that the number of French internet users visiting financial sites more than doubled from 18.5% to 38%, with the amount of time spent on these sites increasing by over 50% as well.
In the UK, where many banks have introduced partnerships with portals such as Lycos, Yahoo, and Excite, Jupiter found that the number of users visiting finance and investment sites in May 2001 had increased by more than 28% from the previous year.
Patricia Lueer, finance analyst at Jupiter MMXI explained the findings, which seem somewhat incongruous given the bearish year suffered by investors everywhere: 'The most popular banks and financial services sites are those that provide up-to-date and comprehensive content which both attract and retain users.'
