The European Parliament has approved the addition of 10 new Commissioners, representing the new member states, to the European Commission.

Following a vote which saw 531 MEPs in favour, 18 against, and 39 abstentions, the Commission's new size and makeup has been approved until the end of its term of office on October 31.

In addition to the 10 representatives from the newly acceded states, 3 new Commissioners from 'old' member states have taken the place of colleagues who have returned to domestic politics.

Representing Greece, Stavros Dimas has replaced Anna Diamantopoulou, Jacques Barrot has assumed the role of French Commissioner previously held by Michel Barnier, and former Economic Affairs Commissioner and Spanish representative, Pedro Solbes has been replaced by Joaquin Almunia.
