Ernst & Young Launches NewsMann With Isle of Man Newspapers

Jason Gorringe, Tax-news.com, London

20 October 2000

Isle of Man Newspapers and Ernst & Young recently launched the Isle of Man's first Internet Business News and Archiving Service - NewsMann, available at www.newsmann.com. The website can also be accessed through the Isle of Man Newspapers website at www.iomonline.co.im and the Ernst & Young website at www.ey.co.im.

The new service provides coverage of all important Manx business news stories together with a comprehensive archive of news stories. The website publishes articles as they appeared in the Isle of Man Examiner and the Manx Independent, including the photographs which accompanied the stories.

The Current News Desk features all the Island's news stories which appeared in the previous week's newspapers and can be accessed through story headlines.

The Archive News Service contains a library of previous news stories. These can be accessed by date or by using the site's internal search engine which will find stories by headline, keyword and even by the names of individuals who appeared in each story or photograph. The archive already contains over 750 stories and these will be added to every week, making it an highly effective information and research facility.

Said Ernst & Young managing partner Larry Kearns on the launch of NewsMann: "I believe that NewsMann will be an invaluable asset for businesses, both on and off the Island, and will serve as a highly powerful medium for the promotion of the Island to the international business community.

"It will also enable Island residents and expatriate Manx to access all the Island's business news stories from the Examiner and Independent in a totally new way without having to leave their home or office. Gone are the days of having to laboriously search through mounds of papers in a library to find the story that you want to read or need for reference. The new service will produce the information required in a matter of seconds. Isle of Man Newspapers provide some of the best in-depth news coverage in the offshore financial world and we at Ernst & Young are delighted to be able to make our technical know-how, international connections and communication resources available for the publishing of this highly innovative new medium.

"This new service will, I believe, help to further promote the Isle of Man to the outside world and will again demonstrate the Island's capability in the business of electronic communication."

Announcing the new service Jeff Black, production director of Isle of Man Newspapers, said: "NewsMann is a prime example of companies on the Island working together to promote the Island internationally.

"We at Isle of Man Newspapers have made available our business news stories which our reporters and photographers compile each week and Ernst & Young have provided their technical knowledge and world-wide expertise. By combining our extensive news coverage with their international connections, business and financial networks, we have produced a superb facility with which to keep the international business world abreast of Island developments in a way and at a speed that has never before been possible.

Added Ernst & Young partner Peter Horsthuis: "NewsMann is a wonderful research facility. I can look up stories by subject or topic, such as e-commerce, compliance and industry and the list of relevant articles is displayed for me. I can even enter the name of a person I have never met, but may meet in the future, and if their photograph has appeared in the newspapers it too will be listed for me to view. It is a service which I know my clients and colleagues around the world will find as useful as I do and it will act as a window to the world for Island business."

Concluded Trudi Williamson, managing director of Isle of Man Newspapers: "I am convinced that the NewsMann will become an invaluable asset for all businesses connected with the Isle of Man or wishing to find out more about the many benefits of the Island."
