It emerged last week that electronic signatures are soon to become a legal reality in the Netherlands.
According to reports, after a delay of more than a year, the Dutch Parliament's upper house, the Eerste Kamer, or Senate is set to pass the electronic signature bill into law on May 6. The bill was approved by the lower house, the Tweede Kamer, or House of Representatives, in March 2002.
The legislation, when passed, will boost e-commerce and e-government, as it will provide for more efficient and reliable verification of the indentity of an e-mail originator.
