A report from TrustNet on UK investment trusts shows that Eastern European portfolios scored the most significant gains in the last five years, with the top performers recording growth in excess of 1,000%.
Over the five years to January 26 2004, the figures show that JP Morgan Fleming Russian notched up the best performance with gains of 1,074%.
The figures also revealed that Eastern European, Asian and Japanese trusts featured heavily in the top ten performers.
Meanwhile, specialist closed-ended funds were amongst the biggest risers, with funds seeing share price gains from 216% upwards.
Most of the bottom 10 performers over this period were split cap trusts, with the largest fall of 99.9%being recorded by Gartmore Distribution. Several of the bottom performers were liquidated following the split cap sector collapse. .
