A full draft list of US products to be targeted by EU sanctions has been presented to the 133 Committee (a group of trade representatives from EU member states who meet once a week to discuss trade issues) by the European Commission, according to an AFX News report.
Although the list is due to be released on Friday, member states have until November 12 to submit comments and petition for the removal of products. European industry bodies and other interested parties will also be asked to comment on the draft list following its release tomorrow.
The Commission's list - formulated in response to the US' refusal to end 'unfair' tax breaks for American exporters - is wide ranging, targeting sanctions at a range of meat, dairy, vegatable, and cereal products. Leather, fur, forestry products, iron and steel, ceramics, glassware. jewellery, certain types of electronic machinery, and toys and games from the United States are also set for inclusion on the list.
However, despite this looming threat, senior House Ways and Means Committee Democrat, Robert Matsui revealed last week that there is unlikely to be any action this year on amending the current Extraterritorial Income (ETI) regime.
