The European Commission is getting closer towards its aim of imposing taxes on Israeli goods following talks earlier this week between EU and Israeli officials who continue to fail to agree over products that are produced over the green line.
According to the Israel Business Arena, European Commission Israel press officer David Kriss has confirmed tht the EU plans to issue a caution to importers in Israel that they could face a duty on goods manufactured in the 'territories'.
Ministry of Trade and Industry spokesman for foreign trade Ronit Kan said: 'The Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs are currently deliberating on the matter. We have agreed to continue discussions with the European Union. The EU has announced its intentions to cancel the tax-free status on goods, but no final decision has been reached.'
Currently Israel enjoys tax-free access for goods into the EU, which purchases around a quarter of Israel's $34 billion exports of products.
