EPO, OECD And UK Patent Office To Co-Host Conference

The commercialisation of patents and financial aspects of the management of patent portfolios will be the focus of an international conference which will take place on November 21 in London, it emerged last week.

Jointly organised by the European Patent Office (EPO), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the UK Patent Office, this high-level event will address decision makers in business and industry, representatives of the financial community such as banks, investment banks, venture capital funds and insurance companies, policy makers in governments agencies and regulatory bodies of financial markets.

According to the EPO:

"The rapid growth of the patent system since the 1990s testifies not only to the enormous innovative potential in the globalised economy, but also to the crucial role of intellectual capital in the knowledge economy. Apart from reports of soaring revenues from intellectual property licensing in technology markets, however, the economic impact of patents still enjoys little attention from the business and finance communities."

"The London conference aims at bringing decision and policy makers from the relevant sectors up to date with the latest financial developments in this rapidly evolving field."

"High profile speakers - amongst others the President of the EPO, Professor Alain Pompidou, the CEO of the UK Patent Office, Ron Marchant, and Nobuo Tanaka, Director for Science, Technology and Industry at the OECD - as well as experts from insurance, business and economy will explore their topics in four different sessions: maximising the value of patents, creating a market for technology, monetisation and accounting of intellectual property, insurances for intellectual capital."

The conference will take place at the British Library Conference Centre.
