A two-day seminar aimed at sensitizing stakeholders on issues relating to the Economic Partnership Agreement between CARIFORUM and the EU was held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, beginning Thursday.
The seminar, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Trade and the Commonwealth Secretariat, focused on trade in goods only.
Negotiations between the CARIFORUM Region and the European Union ended with an Agreement being initialled in December last year, paving the way for the implementation stage of the Agreement.
The Seminar was being held at Grenadines House, Kingstown Park, and was facilitated by CARIFORUM’s Lead Negotiator on Market Access, Branford Isaacs.
The opening ceremony was addressed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Trade Sir Louis Straker, Permanent Secretary Patricia Martin, Regional Trade Policy Adviser at the OECS Secretariat Allan Paul and President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Jerry George.
A similar seminar looking at Trade in services will be held in St Vincent and the Grenadines next month.
The series of seminars is seeking to ensure that the region is positioned to maximize the opportunities offered under the EPA.
