According to figures released by the Building and Housing Department of Dubai Municipality, a total of 730 multi-storey buildings are currently under construction in Dubai which will add 4,622 apartments and 636 shops to the growing property sector of the emirate.
Fouzi Mohammed Al Shuhhi, Head of the Building Control Section at the department, which regulates construction activities in Dubai, said that 579 of the buildings are in Deira, while 151 buildings are in Bur Dubai.
Apart from the multi-storey buildings, there are 3,151 other buildings currently under construction in Dubai, of which 1,404 are in Deira, 1,652 in Bur Dubai and 95 in rural areas.
Pride of place, however, will go to a new skyscraper (pictured) on Sheikh Zayed Road which will have a 43-storey tower costing Dh 135 million. Dubai Municipality has issued a licence for the construction of the building which will include apartments and offices, as well as a health club and swimming pool for residents.
Khalid Mohammed Saleh, Head of the Building Licenses Section, said the building will have one underground floor, a ground floor and 43 upper storeys. The total built-up area will be 354,000 square feet while the plot area is 10,000 square feet.
The building will include 26 two-bedroom flats, 46 three-bedroom flats and nine four-bedroom flats. Offices will cover an area of 68,000 square feet, and the parking lot will be able to accommodate 289 cars.
