It emerged this week that two new judges have been appointed to the Dubai International Finance Centre Court.
According to reports in the regional media, Sir Anthony Evans PC has been appointed to the role of Chief Justice of the DIFC Court, with Michael Hwang SC set to serve as his deputy for a three year period.
As Chief Justice of the DIFC Court, which has the same status and function as a Dubai Court. Sir Anthony will be responsible for managing the overall administrative affairs of the DIFC Court, in addition to presiding over all appeals.
His new role will also encompass the establishment of circuits and divisions of the DIFC Court, and appointing the court’s staff and judicial officers.
"Having developed a body of laws in consultation with major global institutions and following international best practice, it is essential that judges appointed to the DIFC Court are of the highest possible calibre," Dr Omar Bin Sulaiman, director general of the Dubai International Financial Centre Authority explained to Gulf News on Monday, continuing:
"Companies establishing themselves at the DIFC can rest assured that the DIFC Court will be independent, credible and effective."
