The Cyprus House Finance Committee is still waiting to begin discussions on the government's tax reforms plans and although the Committee now has the complete list of proposals it is unlikely to start the talks for another two weeks.
Last month the members told reporters that they were not to blame for any delays in the introduction of the tax reforms. House Finance Committee Chairman Markos Kyprianou said at the time that the government had not submitted the proposals, 'it is the government that is causing delays, not parliament,' he said.
However, now it is the members that are holding up the process. According to news-site Xak, members of the House Finance Committee have stated their preference for mulling over the proposals for a two-week period before they can comment on them, and given that the Finance Ministry did not submit the plans until Wednesday of last week they claimed that the delay is justified.
