The Cyprus Maritime Prize will be announced on September 23, 2007, the Cypriot government revealed last week.
The Cyprus Maritime Prize was established in 1995 by a decision of the Council of Ministers, for recognition of services which contributed to the creation, improvement and promotion of Cyprus merchant shipping, the evolution of Cyprus as a shipping center, the growth and qualitative improvement of the Cyprus merchant fleet, the enhancement of safety standards on Cyprus ships and the prevention of pollution of the sea from ships.
The prize is awarded to natural or legal persons every two years during the “Maritime Cyprus” Conference, by the President of the Republic, or the Minister of Communications and Works on behalf of the President.
The prize will be awarded to the successful nominee at the opening session of the “Maritime Cyprus” Conference. A selection committee for the 2007 prize has been established, with eight members.
Nominations for the 2007 Prize must be submitted to the selection committee, through the Director of the Department of Merchant Shipping and on the prescribed forms, by 30 June 2007.
