Speaking following his swearing-in as the Securities and Exchange Commission's new chairman, Christopher Cox pledged to work hard on behalf of investors.
Cox, who officially assumed his new role on Thursday stressed his commitment to vigorously enforcing US securities laws, telling SEC employees in a speech that: "We are the investor's advocate."
As SEC chairman, one of Commissioner Cox's first challenges will be to respond to the lawsuit brought by the US Chamber of Commerce over rules on the independence of mutual fund board directors which were controversially pushed through during the final days of former chairman, William Donaldson's tenure.
