Irish Prime Minister, Brian Cowen, met with US Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee on December 15 to discuss US policies in 2009.
They conversed on a wide range of subjects including the economic challenges that both Ireland and the US are facing, as well as the global implications of those challenges.
They discussed the current actions being taken by the US administration, including in the financial and automotive sectors, and the likely developments in US policy when the new President and new Congress take office in the New Year.
The Prime Minister updated Senator Dodd on the actions being taken by the government to ensure that Ireland deals effectively with domestic implications of the current unprecedented global economic difficulties and to promote a successful economic recovery.
At the meeting Cowen stressed the importance of Ireland’s future relationship with the United States.
