A consultation has been launched into the Joint Customs Consultative Committee's proposal for a Modernised Customs Code (MCC) in the UK.
HM Revenue & Customs is calling on JCCC members and all those involved in international trade to read and comment on the consultation.
The JCCC has put forward a proposal for a Modernised Customs Code to replace the current Community Customs Code.
Although, the current Code has been amended since its adoption in 1992, it has not fully kept abreast of recent changes in the global trading environment.
The MCC is intended to modernise and simplify the customs rules so that they are compatible with operational changes in international trade, the greater use of electronic communications and the evolving role of customs authorities.
The latest version of the MCC Commission reference COM(2005)608 was adopted by the College of Commissioners on 30 November 2005.
The MCC complements the proposal for a Decision of the European Parliament and of the Council on implementing a paperless environment for Customs and Trade that was adopted at the same time.
