Colombia and Korea have signed an agreement to avoid double taxation and a financial cooperation agreement in Bogota in the presence of finance and education ministers, Oscar Ivan Zuluaga, and Cecilia Maria Velez, and the Ambassador of Korea, Mr Hong Seong Hoa.
These formal agreements are the result of rounds of negotiations held in Bogotá and Seoul which led to agreement in principle in November 2009. An agreement on reciprocal promotion and protection of investments was signed between the two countries in Korea on July 6, 2010 and negotiations continue on a Free Trade Agreement.
The Colombian finance ministry states that the double taxation agreements provide Colombian and Korean investors with a favorable and stable legal framework for their investments. In addition, the agreements include important mechanisms for the prevention of tax avoidance and evasion.
