US-based Cogent Investment Research LLC is to conduct what it says is the first comprehensive survey of the international hedge fund industry, it emerged last week.
In a statement posted to the Albourne Village alternative investment community calling for participants, Glen Beigel and David Slavin, two of the organisation's principals, revealed that the study will address issues such as the number of hedge funds currently in existence, the amount of money managed by the industry on a global scale, the distribution of assets throughout the industry, the favoured jurisdictions for hedge funds, and service providers to the industry.
'Our aim is to develop a comprehensive survey of the entire industry and freely disseminate the resulting information. We are quite frankly nonplussed that such a survey has not been fielded before now; we assume that no one has been able to marshal the resources necessary to properly canvass this fluid and fragmented community,' the statement explained.
