Hedge fund information provider, CogentHedge on Wednesday revealed that July was a month of mixed performances for the hedge funds which it assesses.
The firm announced that last month more than 250 new funds were added to the database which supplies its analytical engine with performance information, bringing the total now logged to more than 1,750.
According to CogentHedge, based on performance results from around half of the component alternative investments, the average hedge fund investment gained 0.61% in July. However, it revealed that there was a wide range of returns by category, with funds of funds gaining 0.26%, whilst futures hedge funds lost 1.71%.
The monthly review of July's performances concluded by announcing that:
'The gainers for the month were led by the long/short managers: all growth managers returned on average 2.87% and all value managers gained 2.09% during July.'
