It its most recent newsletter, the CogentHedge hedge fund information provider revealed that with just over 60% of the alternative investment vehicles logged on its database reporting results last month, September had proved to be a "scattershot month for the alternative investment community".
The average hedge fund investment gained around 0.95% in September, the firm revealed, adding that although returns varied according to investment strategy, all strategies managed to average positive results.
The CogentHedge newsletter went on to reveal that the average fund of funds gained 1.06% last month, whilst the average futures fund manager secured returns of 0.07%.
Investment strategies which performed best in September tended to be those operating from within more cyclical sectors, such as distressed securities, emerging markets debt, and global macro.
