October was a positive month for the alternative investment community, according to CogentHedge, the hedge fund information provider.
It its most recent newsletter, the firm revealed that with just over 60% of the alternative investment vehicles logged on its database reporting results last month, October had proven to be "one of the better months for the alternative investment community in quite some time".
Returns for the month were generally positive, according to CogentHedge, although the information provider explained that the standard deviation of returns for all funds was slightly higher than in September.
The CogentHedge newsletter went on to reveal that the average fund of funds gained 1.52% last month, whilst the average futures fund manager secured returns of 1.82%.
Investment strategies which performed well in October were: Market Timing (+5.10%), Growth (+4.15%), Value (+3.95%), Distressed Strategies (+3.53%) and Convertible Arbitrage (+2.93%).
However, funds specialising in Options Arbitrage experienced a loss of 0.11% last month.
