November was another good month for the alternative investment community, according
to CogentHedge, the hedge fund information provider.
It its most recent newsletter, the firm revealed that with over 64% of the alternative investment vehicles logged on its database reporting results last month, November had proven to be "a continuation of the winning streak for the alternative investment community."
Returns for the month were generally positive, according to CogentHedge, with a dramatic narrowing of the standard deviation of returns for all funds relative to the preceding months.
The CogentHedge newsletter went on to reveal that the average fund of funds gained 0.52% last month, whilst the average futures fund manager secured returns of 0.18%.
Investment strategies which performed well in October were: Distressed Strategies (which returned 2.62%), MBS Arbitrage (2.03%), Value (2.05%), Emerging Markets Equities (1.88%), and Pairs Trading (1.47%).
However, funds specialising in Income Strategies experienced a loss of 0.07% last month, while Index Arbitrage funds dropped 0.08%.
