Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji has encouraged the State Administration of Taxation (SAT) to press ahead with its efforts to crack down on tax evasion by pursuing the Golden Tax Project in which a national computerised network will be established using cutting edge technology to help detect fake invoices and false VAT claims.
According to reports from the English People Daily news service, Zhu urged SAT workers to step up their progress last week during an inspection of the department and praised tax collectors for the increase in tax revenues over the past few years. But he stressed that the taxation system needed further improvement and modernisation.
He called for the second phase of the Golden Tax Project to be finalised and for the third phase to be implemented as soon as possible which will, said the Premier, regulate revenue payments and tackle export tax fraud and the forging of VAT receipts.
