The Chinese Vice-Minister of Justice, Duan Zhengkun met with Hong Kong's Secretary of Justice, Elsie Leung Oi-si on Monday to discuss closer cooperation between lawyers on the mainland and their counterparts in the SAR.
According to the South China Morning Post, which reported on Mr Duan's visit to Hong Kong, the two officials also discussed the opportunities open to lawyers from Hong Kong and China under the Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the second phase of which was signed last week.
The SCMP revealed that in addition to the Hong Kong Justice Secretary, Mr Duan will meet with members of the judiciary, the Bar Association, the Law Society, the Legal Aid Department, the Legislative Council, the Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Correctional Services Department.
The Beijing official is set to leave Hong Kong on Thursday.
