Speaking last week at a conference on cooperation between the Chinese Trade and Taxation Departments, Deputy Commissioner of State Administration of Taxation, Cui Junhui revealed that the government's efforts to crack down on tax rebate fraud have been a success.
The Deputy Commissioner revealed that as a result of cooperation between the relevent departments, and improved tax collection and managerial procedures within the tax department, 55,000 businesses have been inspected over the past year.
These investigations have uncovered tax rebate theft and fraud amounting to around 8.649 billion yuan (approximately US$1.04 billion), he announced on Thursday, revealing that some of the networks established to commit these types of fiscal crime had been in place for years prior to the crackdown.
