A delegation, to be led by Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, will visit the Bahamas as part of a three-day official visit starting September 3. Wu Bangguo will be the highest-ranking official to ever visit the Caribbean.

During the course of the visit, the Chinese delegation will meet with Governor-General Arthur Hanna, and sign various agreements at a meeting with Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham.

The agreements that are to be concluded are: an investment promotion and protection agreement (to address the conditions for creating, stimulating, encouraging, promoting, improving, and protecting investment by Bahamian and Chinese investors in both countries); a framework agreement for the loan through the Chinese Exim Bank for the Airport Highway Project (which follows up on previous steps taken in the development of this project); and an agreement on economic and technical cooperation directed exclusively toward the construction of the national stadium.
