China and Pakistan are to establish a comprehensive tax-free trading system within the next two to three years, Pakistan's Commerce Minister, Humayun Akhtar Khan has announced.
Addressing a seminar attended by more than 200 Chinese entrepreneurs in Shanghai last week, Khan explained that the tax agreement is one stage in a process designed to bring the two countries together economically and diplomatically under the Early Harvest Programme, which will see tariffs eliminated on a number of items.
"It is part of the on-going efforts transforming excellent diplomatic relations into a strong economic partnership," he stated.
The Early Harvest Programme, part of the China/Pakistan Free Trade Agreement, is due to be introduced from January 2006.
