During his official visit to China, Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie was told by the Chinese President Hu Jintao that relations between the two nations have developed steadily since the forging of diplomatic ties.
According to reports in the Chinese media, Hu pledged to further develop long term and stable relations between China and the Bahamas based on the ‘Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence’. He also thanked the Bahamas for its support for the one-China policy.
Meanwhile, Wu Bangguo, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee noted that China would like to promote high-level exchanges of visits, and enhance economic and trade cooperation so as to further relations with the Bahamas.
Christie, on his first visit to China, was said to be impressed by the country’s development, and stated that China’s friendship was valued by the Bahamas.
"China's development will make the world more balanced," Christie noted.
