Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang visited Kuwait on December 28 to step up relations between the two countries ahead of the likely conclusion of a free trade agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and China in 2009.
At the meeting with Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah he emphasised that China highly values its ties with Kuwait. He praised Kuwait for being at the forefront of GCC-China discussions and said bilateral cooperation had been fruitful since the signing of the first agreement between the two countries in 1971.
The Emir of Kuwait emphasised how important cooperation was between the two parties, underlining Kuwait’s commitment to improving trade levels and relations with China.
As part of his tour of the Gulf Li Keqiang visited, amongst other countries, the Qatari capital of Doha for the Asia Cooperation Dialogue conference as well as visiting the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
