It emerged on Monday that China has signed up to an international anti-spam agreement.
The country's participation in the London Action Plan on Spam Enforcement Collaboration has been welcomed by the UK and US, which are leading the anti-spam drive, as around 20% of the world's unsolicited commercial e-mails are thought to originate from China.
According to reports, the Chinese authorities will be represented in the initiative by enforcement body, Union Network Beijing.
The London Action Plan was launched by the UK's Office of Fair Trading and the US Federal Trade Commission in October of last year, and is working towards increased training for investigators, better communication between national anti-spam agencies and the creation of an international working group to tackle the problem.
