Channel Islands To Enter More Discussions With OECD

Guernsey's Deputy Laurie Morgan has spoken of the need to continue serious and dedicated talks with the OECD after attending a multilateral meeting for jurisdictions in Paris last week.

In a press release issued by the island's Finance and Advisory Committee, Deputy Laurie Morgan described the meeting as a 'useful opportunity to exchange views generally and to discuss how the work of the OECD harmful tax initiative will be taken forward following regional multilaterals and the meeting of the OECD-Commonwealth Working Group.'

Stating that the Channel Islands were keen to keep the channels of dialogue open in their quest to be removed from the blacklist, Deputy Morgan said: 'Guernsey and Jersey support the basic principle of establishing global tax standards. For the OECD initiative to succeed there has to be an inclusive dialogue to secure a global level playing field in taxation standards. The Channel Islands will be entering into further dialogue with the OECD in the coming weeks. These discussions must progress on the basis of mutual respect and understanding as we work towards a partnership between nations and independent jurisdictions with common interests and goals.'

He concluded that the 'Channel Islands would continue to adopt a joint approach to discussions with the OECD in recognition of our common interests. Both islands are convinced that we already meet most of the OECD’s stated requirements.'
