The Chief Ministers of Jersey and Guernsey attended the All-Party Parliamentary Channel Islands Group meeting, held in London on June 28, 2011.
Jersey’s Chief Minister, Terry Le Sueur, and Guernsey’s Chief Minister, Lyndon Trott attended a lunch at the Houses of Parliament hosted by the Group Chair, Jim Dobbin. Le Sueur was accompanied by Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Paul Routier and Jersey’s Director of International Affairs, Tom Walker.
The All-Party Group was established to encourage and facilitate discussion between members of the States of Jersey, the States of Guernsey and UK Members of Parliament. The group considers issues as they affect the Channel Islands and is open to parliamentarians in both the House of Commons and House of Lords.
Le Sueur said the Group provided an opportunity for the Channel Islands to increase its engagement with Parliament and added that Jersey was keen to play a more active role in the All-Party Group.
“The All-Party Parliamentary Channel Islands Group enables us to further promote the relationship between the UK and the Channel Islands, as well as to enhance the understanding among UK Members of Parliament of the issues facing the Channel Islands," he said.
Trott added: “The All-Party Parliamentary Channel Islands Group has provided support to the Channel Islands on a number of issues since it was formed. This ongoing support is very much appreciated, and has helped us in building strong relationships with decision-makers in the UK.”
Members of the All-Party Parliamentary Channel Islands Group have been invited to attend a visit to Jersey on July 15-16, 2011.
