It was announced this week that Channel Island law firm, Ogier, and Cayman Islands law firm, Boxalls, are to merge, in what represents the first transatlantic merger of its kind.

Following the move, Ogier will become one of the world's largest offshore legal service providers, with more than 370 lawyers and staff worldwide. Combined, the two firms will offer in-depth coverage of key legal services in Jersey, Guernsey, the Cayman Islands, and London.

According to a statement, Boxalls will be known as Ogier & Boxalls, whilst the Jersey and Guernsey-based Ogier operations will continue under the name of Ogier & Le Masurier. Administration services will be provided across all four jurisdictions under the name of Ogier Fiduciary Services from February of next year.

Speaking following the announcement of the merger, Ogier chairman Jonathon White observed that:

"There is strong and growing demand for the provision of offshore services by top tier organisations in well-regulated jurisdictions. Together with Boxalls, we will offer extremely high services from the world's three key offshore centres."
