The Central Bank of Belize has informed the general public that it has issued two directives to Belize Bank Limited regarding monies received from the governments of Venezuela and Taiwan.
The first directive issued by the Central Bank requires Belize Bank to "forthwith return to the Government of Belize the sum of USD10 million sent by Bandes - Fideicomisos De Venezuela on 28 December 2007 for disbursement to the Government of Belize for construction and repair of houses."
The second directive asks Belize Bank "to provide full information and documentation regarding the sum of USD10 million received by Belize Bank Limited from the Government of Taiwan."
The Central Bank warned that failure to comply with such directives is a criminal offence apart from civil and other liabilities, and sanctions which may be incurred or imposed.
