The Governor of the Cayman Islands, Peter Smith, returned last week from his official trip overseas. He had been away since 25 November.

During his trip Governor Smith attended a two-day annual mini-conference of Caribbean Overseas Territories Governors held in Miami, which discussed, among other issues, the White Paper on constitutional review, follow-up to the KPMG report, and financial crime.

But the main purpose of his overseas visit was a round of high-level meetings in London where he updated the House of Commons All-Party Group on developments in the Cayman Islands. Governor Smith reassured the UK Government of the newly-elected Cayman Islands government's intentions to continue dialogue "within the framework already established and with the objective of securing within that framework the best interest of the Cayman Islands as an international financial centre."

Governer Smith returned to the Cayman Islands on 5 December, accompanied by Head of the Overseas Territories Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Mr John White. Mr White paid a four-day official visit to the Cayman Islands to conduct a tour of the territory and met with the new government before returning to the UK on 9 December.
