The Cook Islands Tourism Board has lamented the demise of Canadian airline carrier, Canada 3000, by saying it is nothing short of catastrophic for the country's tourist industry, the repercussions of which are likely to shake the economy.
On November 10, Canada 3000 announced that the directors and officers of the airline resigned and Deloitte and Touche was brought in as trustee in the bankruptcy of three Canada 3000 companies - Canada 3000 Inc., Canada 3000 Airlines Ltd., and Royal Aviation Inc.
Chairman of the Tourism Board, Don Beer, claimed that this is the time when the Cook Islands normally plays host to a lot of Canadian tourists. He said the business generated by Canada 3000 for the Cook Islands totals to around Australian $10 million each year.
The Action Cook Islands Committee is due to meet this week to discuss the problem.
