A Spanish-based pressure group is calling upon the country's authorities to ban two online gaming firms, one of which operates from Gibraltar, from selling their services to Spanish residents.
According to a report from Gibraltar-based newspaper, Panorama, the Catalan pressure group Asociación Centro Catalán de Adicciones Sociales (ACENCAS) has made a complaint to the authorities in order to stop the Gibraltar gaming site, Betandwin.com from gaining access to Spanish punters.
The Association has also complained about the Barbados-based website Miapuesta.com, reportedly based on the fact that neither company can offer recourse to Spanish punters in the event of a claim because they are based offshore, and also because they do not pay Spanish taxes.
It is estimated that around 100,000 Spanish punters place bets on internet gaming sites. It is unclear whether other online gaming firms are affected by the complaint, according to the report.
